Tina Ruggiero, M.S., R.D., L.D., co-author of The Best Homemade Baby Food on the Planet , tells TheBump.com there are three basic rules to follow when choosing food for your baby.

"The first year of life is when the palate is trained," says Ruggiero. "The three rules I tell my clients to follow are: Go for color, think fresh, and introduce new flavors and different textures at age-appropriate stages.
