Gordon Murray is one of the finest automotive designers of all time. A genuine hands-on engineer, he grew up in South Africa before moving to England and joining Brabham. He quickly became the team’s chief designer, and masterminded Nelson Piquet’s title victories in 1981 and ’83. Later that decade, he joined McLaren and enjoyed more success in Formula One before starting the company’s road-car division. His McLaren F1 rewrote the supercar rulebook and went on to win the 1995 Le Mans 24 Hours. After leaving McLaren, he established Gordon Murray Design, which specialises in cutting-edge road-car technology.
