An ABC of Families

A Note from the Publisher:

Yesterday, we received thoughtful feedback on our new release, An ABC of Families. As the publisher, we sincerely apologise for causing emotional harm or distress through this book. Our intention is always to make books that are as inclusive and diverse as possible. But we don’t always get it right. We’re grateful for the feedback and will always make the effort to work with our authors and illustrators honestly and openly to make changes, where we’ve caused offence. We will be reaching out to consultants, who will be fairly paid for their work, regarding the issues raised by An ABC of Families in order to make edits and art corrections for the next reprint. In the future, we are committed to engaging with representative individuals and consultants on all our books to ensure that we do not cause hurt with our titles. We welcome all comments and concerns from the public at readings@quarto.com.

A Note from the Author:

I want to express my deepest and most sincere apology for the hurt certain letters of An ABC of Families has caused. This book was intended to be a beautiful celebration of all families no matter who they include or what they may look like, and to be as inclusive as possible. I fully understand and take responsibility for the missed opportunities and the misrepresentation of some communities. I missed the mark. In not representing these complex dynamics accurately I further perpetuated narratives that are harmful or sensitive to these groups of people. For that, I apologize. The illustrator, the publisher, and I are moving forward to make edits and reprint this book so that it can be the inclusive and connecting piece that it was intended to be. Thanks so much to everyone who has shared their constructive feedback.
