DIY Bookmarks Creating your own bookmarks with lettering and doodles is a fun project that also makes a great handmade gift idea! I usually like to start with the lettering first and then add doodles around the words. Or draw a fun border and then fill it with your chosen text. A lot of times, the words are what inspire my doodles. For example, with the “Travel the World: Read a Book” phrase listed below, I might add a doodle of a globe, a suitcase, an airplane, or anything else related to traveling. Supplies: sheet of white cardstock ruler pencil ultra fine point black marker colored pencils or markers paper trimmer or scissors colored card stock (optional) paper-friendly glue (optional) Step One: Using your ruler, draw three 2.5-inch by 6-inch rectangles on your sheet of white yardstick in pencil. Step Two: Add desired text in the center of each rectangle. Fill in the remaining white space of each bookmark with doodles. Step Three: Trace over your lettering and artwork with an ultra fine point black marker. Step Four: Color your bookmarks with markers or colored pencils. Step Five: Cut out bookmarks with paper trimmer or scissors. Optional: Glue bookmarks to a colored piece of card stock and trim to form a small border around the bookmark. Not only does this add a pop of color, it also makes the bookmarks more sturdy. Coming in April (now available for pre-order): try more great hand lettering and coloring projects in Words to Live By!
