Non-Fiction | 24 August 2015Dining with Dinosaurs: Dinosaur Food Share article facebook twitter google pinterest We have had so much fun talking about dinos, that we’ve extended Dinosaur Week an extra day. All this talk of prowling, fighting, hunting and gathering is making us hungry! For tonight’s dinner let’s take a look inside of Dino-Dinners to find out what a dinosaur would cook up. Dino-Dinners is an entertaining, educational book geared towards elementary classrooms that provides information about the eating habits, hunting methods, and lifestyles of various dinosaurs. While learning about each featured dinosaur, readers will discover that paleontologists observe fossil remains in order to make conclusions about these extinct creatures. For instance, we know that the Baryonyx ate sea creatures because a Baryonyx fossil was found with a fish and a baby Iguanodon inside its belly! What are your favorite foods to eat for dinner? Most likely you’ve never sampled a dish of rotten meat (a classic meal of the T-Rex), but let’s imagine what we would serve if a dino friend came to dinner. For a visit from our omnivorous friend the Oviraptor, we would probably serve an omelet filled with shrimp and spinach – Oviraptors love eggs (their name translates to “egg thief” in Greek!), and eat both meat and plants. If a Tyrannosaurus Rex came to dinner, we would dish up a meat lover’s pizza to satisfy those carnivorous cravings. The T-Rex would probably be so happy he didn’t have to hunt down the meal before eating! We would definitely dine al fresco with a Brachiosaurus – they wouldn’t fit in the dining room at 25 metres tall – and we think this herbivore would enjoy a simple treetop salad of leafy greens sprinkled with pine nuts. What do you think? Dinosaur food: yummy or yucky? Now that your stomach is growling as fiercely as a T-Rex, how about you head to the kitchen and brainstorm a dino-dinner of your own! Share pictures of your dino recipes with us on Twitter @QuartoKids and our QuartoKids Facebook page. We’d love to hear what you think makes delicious dinosaur food. My jaws and cheeks help my teeth grind, grate and crush: turning every delicious mouthful of my veggie dino-dinner into mush. Velociraptor Big or small, there’s no escape once my gang give chase. We sprint… and leap, climbing leathery mountains of dino flesh with the huge claws on our feet. Then comes our favourite part – EAT! EAT! EAT!
