Craft Ideas for Adults | 12 May 2016Pretty Paper Peonies Share article facebook twitter google pinterest Brighten up your space with the colors of spring with these beautiful paper peonies from The Art of Paper Flowers! The best part? They last forever! According to Greek mythology, the peony is named after Paeon, the physician to the gods. Peonies are large, beautiful flowers with many petals. It’s said that mischievous nymphs hid within those petals on Mount Olympus. Peony plants can live for hundreds of years, but they do not like to be disturbed. When a peony plant is moved or transplanted, it may not bloom again for several seasons. This version of the beautiful paper peony is not nearly as fussy. INSTRUCTIONS 1. Glue a thin wire along the back spine of each leaf, leaving 3″ (7.6 cm) of wire extending off the bottom. 2. Loosely crunch the petal pieces, and then cup each petal. 3. Slide the locking disk onto a piece of stem wire, bend the tip of the wire back, and add a bit of glue to hold the disk in place. 4. Slip the #1 petal onto the stem by poking a hole in the center of the piece. The locking disk keeps the pattern piece in place on the stem. Close up the petals to hide the locking disk and keep the pattern piece in place with a dab of glue. 5. Slip the #2 through #9 petal pieces on the same way, crinkling and cupping them to give then fullness. A dab of glue in the center of each petal piece near the stem will keep it in place. 6. Slip the second locking disk onto the stem, pushing it up to hold all the pattern pieces tightly together. Apply a dab of glue to keep it in place. 7. Slip the calyx onto the stem and slide it up to the bottom of the flower, and glue it in place. 8. Wrap the stem with floral tape, stretching and slightly overlapping the tape as you continue down the stem. Buy from an Online Retailer US: UK: Fill your home with paper flowers!
