Quarto Publishing is seeking a highly motivated and exceptionally well-organized Editor with a strong interest in publishing to provide support for the Chartwell Books imprint and Custom, Proprietary, and Value team. This position is remote. 

Chartwell Books produces value editions of books across a wide range of subjects including lifestyle, pop culture, cooking, guided journals, craft kits, and classics. Editor for the Chartwell will act as team leader on designated projects, book & books plus titles. This involves initiating and developing book and kit ideas, enlisting authors, writing content, and project managing titles from idea development to publication.

Key Results Areas

  • Serve as editorial lead on a wide range of books and books-plus projects, taking them from concept development to manuscript creation/editing and layouts through final production.
  • Research and enlist appropriate authors, helping expand the stable of highly skilled writers.
  • Create new content in house, when needed, such as writing brief introductions, kit project instructions, guided journal prompts.  
  • Independently develop and edit book and kit ideas, hone editorial book angles, often providing written content, including cover copy and captions.
  • Monitor schedules and work with teams to ensure book titles deliver on time and on budget.
  • Work creatively with team members to develop and deliver high-quality project ideas.
  • Contribute proactively to new ideas, keep up on trends, and pop culture events.
  • Write concept briefs, catalog copy, and metadata.

Minimum Skills, Knowledge & Abilities

Required

  • Knowledge of publishing with an emphasis on book and book plus development and production
  • Strong editing ability, i.e., developmental, copy, and line editing
  • A proven record of meeting deadlines and budgets 
  • Familiarity with MS Word editing software
  • Strong writing skills
  • Ability to work efficiently on multiple projects and effectively prioritize within tight deadlines
  • Familiarity with The Chicago Manual of Style.
  • self-motivated, proactive, detail-oriented, receptive to feedback and learns quickly.
  • strong communicator & relationship builder with the ability to balance varying responsibilities.
  • Excellent organizational and project management skills.

 Education and Experience

Required

  • A minimum of 5 to 8 years’ editorial experience in publishing
  • Bachelor’s degree in a related field 

Desired

  • Experience with illustrated publishing and conceptualizing products with components for children and adults
  • Familiarity with metadata and title management systems
