The Quarto Group Acquires Cool Springs Press

March 2, 2011
Minneapolis, MN, March 1, 2011- The Quarto Group Inc. is happy to announce today the acquisition of Brentwood, TN-based Cool Springs Press, effective March 1, 2011.

The announcement has been made by Laurence F. Orbach, chairman and chief executive of The Quarto Group. Cool Springs Press will be part of the Quayside Publishing Group and will report to Ken Fund, president and CEO of the group.

Quarto continues to focus its growth strategy on making acquisitions. "Today's purchase is an excellent way to further the overall strategy of the Quayside Publishing Group, which is a leading publisher and distributor of choice for books for enthusiasts across many niche categories," says Laurence Orbach.

"Cool Springs Press is a perfect fit for our publishing program as they publish into an area that is hardly covered in our current roster of titles," says Ken Fund. "Cool Springs is a leading publisher of gardening and garden related titles; its leadership position in the gardening marketplace is the strength of the program and that is in line with the overall publishing strategy of group."

Roger Waynick, founder and publisher at Cool Springs Press, commented, "We are very pleased to be part of the Quayside Publishing Group and look forward to expanding both our digital and traditional publishing program through Quayside's complete distribution system."

Cool Springs Press published its first state-specific gardener's guide in 1996, recognizing that the most reliable gardening information addresses the growing conditions where consumers live and garden, one of the first presses to recognize the opportunity in publishing. Since then, Cool Springs Press has grown and responded to the renewed popularity in edible gardening and the consumers' need for affordable resources for gardening information. Beginning in 2000, Cool Springs Press started expanding their state and regional gardening information by adding fruit and vegetable gardening, water gardening, regional rose and perennial books, and a Tough Plants series. In addition to new regional series, Cool Springs Press expanded their gardening publishing into Canada with the publication of The Guide to Canadian Vegetable Gardening, written by a well-known gardening communicator, Doug Green.

Titles under the Cool Springs Press imprint will be distributed as part of the Quayside Publishing Group and will ship from the group's distribution facility in Appleton, Wisconsin.

Quayside Publishing Group encompasses 11 imprints in addition to Cool Springs Press: Creative Publishing International, Fair Winds Press, Motorbooks, MVP Books, Quarry Books, Quiver, Rockport Publishers, Voyageur Press, Walter Foster, Zenith Press, and Book Sales. Quayside currently publishes over 400 books a year in the graphic design, enthusiast and lifestyle categories. Recent bestsellers include The 150 Healthiest Foods on Earth, 101 Dog Tricks, AC/DC The Ultimate Illustrated History, The Backyard Beekeeper, and Black & Decker® The Complete Photo Guide Series.
