Description

You’ve seen the sci-fi movies and dreamed of creating your very own robot – a machine built by your own hands that will move and perform tasks at your command.

This book is the perfect illustrated guide to creating a unique machine from scratch by following simple step-by-step instructions. Using easily-sourced components you can teach yourself simple electronics and programming to make your robot walk, draw, or even clean up the mess you have made. Begin with a simple cardboard robot and progress to building a remote-controlled metal rover vehicle, or a robot powered by solar energy.

With practice, your electronics know-how will soon enable you to design and build your very own custom-made creations using the technical skills you have learned here – the possibilities are endless.

The author

Daniel Knox spent much of his childhood in his grandad's workshop, where he learned how to make and build things. Now, Daniel has a BSc in Computer Science (First Class) and for his day-job, he manages the running of 'The Shed', an open access workshop at the University of Kent that provides space and machinery for students to make and build things. In his free time Daniel helps run TinkerSoc, a student society where people build, hack and (sometimes) blow things up. Tinkersoc's antics have included creating a choir of singing Furbies, building 'spud' cannons and engaging in ant-weight robot wars.
