The author

Ellen Giggenbach was born in Bavaria, Germany and lives in the seaside village of Eastbourne in Wellington, New Zealand. She makes her artwork by cutting and assembling graphic shapes from art papers painted in a variety of colors. Ellen finds inspiration from birds and flowers observed from her studio, which is filled with midcentury treasures. She believes her German heritage adds an element of folk to her designs, and her passion for the 1950s, '60s, and '70s inspires her graphic shapes and crazy color combinations.
