Four 1⁄2″ × 6″ (15 mm × 15 cm) pipe nipples
Four 1⁄2″ (15 mm) 90 degree elbows
Four 1⁄2″ × 3″ (15 mm × 7.5 cm) pipe nipples
Four 1⁄2″ (15 mm) flanges
Three shelf boards (Recommended 3⁄4″ × 10″ × 24″ [2 × 25.5 × 61 cm])
Four 1⁄2″ × 8″ (15 mm × 20 cm) Pipe Nipples
Twelve 1⁄2″ (15 mm) couplers six 1⁄2″ (15 mm) close nipples

1 – Assemble one of the wall braces by screwing a 6″ (15 cm) pipe nipple into an elbow. Screw the elbow onto a 3″ (7.5 cm) pipe nipple, then screw a flange onto the nipple.

2 – Place one of the shelf boards on a flat surface on its long edge. Hold the assembled wall brace on the flat surface, sliding it up to the end of the shelf board. Use the position of the nipple’s end to mark where a hole should be made in the board. Repeat on the other end of the board.

3 – Stack the three shelf boards on top of each other, with the marked board on top, and align the edges. Optional: Clamp them together to prevent movement while drilling. Using a drill with the spade bit, drill holes at each of the marks, going all the way through the top board, middle board, and bottom board. This ensures that all three boards will line up when the shelf is assembled.

4 – Assemble three more of the wall braces, and tighten them up as much as possible.

5 – Set out the 8″ (20.5 cm) nipples. Screw a coupler onto one end of each, then a close nipple into the coupler. We’ll call these the shelf spacers.

6 – Take two wall braces, and screw couplers onto the ends of the 6″ (15 cm) nipples.

7 – Insert the close nipple ends of two shelf spacers through the holes in a board. Screw the exposed threads into the couplers on the wall braces. If no threads are exposed, it’s okay to unscrew the close nipple a little bit so that they are. The board should now be supported between the couplers.

8 – Screw two more couplers onto the bottom of the shelf spacers on the bottom of the board.

9 – Repeat steps 7 and 8 with a second board, screwing the close nipple threads into the shelf spacer couplers beneath the first board.

10 – Screw two couplers and two close nipples into the bottom of the shelf spacers. Place the third board over them and screw on the remaining two couplers.

11 – Take the last two wall braces and screw them into the couplers. The shelf is done and ready to be mounted to the wall!

12 – Hold the shelf up to the wall where you want to mount it (with a supporting stud behind it). Screw one screw through one of the top flanges, leaving it slightly loose so that the shelf hangs from it. Due to the weight of this unit, at least one side must be attached to a stud. Use heavy-duty wall anchors for the other side if it doesn’t align with studs. (Note that if you use an anchor, you may need to predrill and install the anchor behind the flange before you attach the shelf to the wall.)

13 – Rotate the other side of the shelf upward so that the shelves are level, and screw a second screw into the other top flange.

14 – If the shelf looks good as is, screw in the remaining screws through the top and bottom flange holes to finish mounting the shelf!
